Long-term outcomes of single-level versus multi-level lumbar fusion: a prospective cohort study

Okafor C, Mehta R, Lindqvist S, The Lumbar Outcomes Consortium

BACKGROUND: The comparative durability of single- versus multi-level fusion remains debated. METHODS: We prospectively followed 412 patients for a median of 5.2 years. RESULTS: Reoperation rates were 8.1% (single-level) vs 14.6% (multi-level); patient-reported outcomes converged by 24 months.

Predictors of proximal junctional kyphosis after adult spinal deformity correction

Haddad N, Pereira L, Yoshida K

A retrospective review of 287 adult spinal deformity corrections identified low bone density, high pelvic incidence–lumbar lordosis mismatch, and upper-instrumented-vertebra selection as independent predictors of proximal junctional kyphosis at two years.

Endoscopic versus tubular microdiscectomy for lumbar disc herniation: a randomized trial

Van der Berg M, Costa F, Ibrahim A

OBJECTIVE: To compare full-endoscopic and tubular microdiscectomy. METHODS: 198 patients randomized 1:1. RESULTS: Equivalent leg-pain reduction at 12 months; endoscopic patients had shorter hospital stay (0.9 vs 1.8 days) and earlier return to work.
